Improving Reproductive Health & Rights
Maternal health, safe delivery, contraception, sexually transmitted infections including HIV/AIDS are matters of life and death for most African women. In Africa, 1 in 16 women are likely to die in pregnancy or child birth while only 1 in 2800 woman face that risk in rich countries.
For many young African girls and woman getting married or becoming sexually active is not a matter of choice but a social obligation and a matter of survival. Sexually active women will spend most of their reproductive years either pregnant or rearing young children leaving them little time or energy to better themselves or participate in public life.
Our work ensures women's increased access to reproductive health services and information. It also ensures that they have the right to make decisions over their bodies, including matters of sexuality and whether and when to have children. This would enable them to achieve their full potential and have the opportunity to become leaders in their communities.
"Improving the lives of African girls and women and empower them to participate in development through improving their access to reproductive health and rights."
