When I was forced to leave Sudan, the country where I was born and raised, I realised that African women’s voices are not adequately heard by the rest of the world. I started Rainbo in 1994 as a contemporary voice of African women from across the continent and globally. Today, Rainbo continues to identify the issues important to African women & girls and create opportunities for dialogue and understanding across cultures.
In Africa, most women and girls live under extreme poverty and suffer social and legal injustice, cultural or religious restrictions, even the risk of death, just because of their gender. Yet these women and girls are strong, resilient, and perform acts of heroism every day to keep themselves, their children and their families alive. Our goal is to help relieve their burden and make sure they have a better chance in life. I hope that when you browse the rest of this site our work will speak for itself.
I know that each and every one of you has something to offer and I invite you to take a positive step and support our work. You can help by giving or raising money, volunteering time and skills or sending us creative ideas and contacts. Whatever you give will be highly appreciated and we pledge that it will be used to give maximum support to those who need it. Your generous contribution can change the life of a woman or a girl in Africa; you could save her life or allow her to reach her full potential through education, health and employment. Our work will not be done until African women & girls become full and equal citizens not only in their countries but in the world.
